Why we like it:
Modern hi-tech style, views, chic, woody and modern, luxury
OUR REVIEW
Ultra-modern and luxurious, rather swank and stylish,
offering the charm and views of Nafplion as its outlook. On the edge
of the centre of this historic town. The Amphitryon has risen out of
the ashes of an old Xenia hotel, but has turned the dull styles of
this sixties chain into something special. Solid, yet softened, with
yacht-like wooden decks, amply hi-tech with electronic controls and
devices in the rooms...figuring out how to control the blinds,
curtains and lights may be an entertainment in its own right for some!
(You will be shown how to use all your room's electronic controls).
TVs are provided in flat screen form. All rooms have views to the sea
and to a varying degree the Bourtzi fortress, Nafplio's maritime
landmark. A special suite is a feast of hedonistic modernity - with
bath that can be open to the room or with electronically controlled
shutters concealed for privacy.
Breakfast is served daily in an attractive floor-to-ceiling windowed
room - you can gaze out to sea while helping yourself to an ample and
varied buffet start to the day.
Off this room is the bar and both lead onto a teak-decked terrace for
fine weather times.
Soon to have its own swimming pool in the re-landscaped garden area in
front of the hotel (in the plans, but not certain when). You can, in
the meantime, freely enjoy the large swimming pool at Amphitryon's
sister hotel Nafplia Palace on the hillside above it; a short walk and
then an elevator ride to the pool level.
Amphitryon has the benefit of being at harbour/sea level which makes
it a comfortable, perhaps lazy, walk back from any on-foot
explorations of Nafplion. Ideal, as Nafplion just demands those short
outings to a restaurant, perhaps back to your fine room to change for
the boat trip to Bourtzi, then a snooze before waking to your flat
screen TV and reaching for the switch to raise the blinds so that you
don't miss the sunset-mood light.
Other quality features include: internet connection on your balcony
for those times when keeping in touch while still enjoying and being
inspired by the view are the perfect thing; carpeted corridors for
peaceful progress with porthole-style windows - so even the corridor
is bright and pleasant.
Nafplion provides many highlights of archaeology and
history: the Palamidi reached lazily by car or the challenge and
reward of climbing its many steps from the town below...
