Why we like it:
ideal location, charming & historic, beautiful interiors, spacious
rooms
OUR REVIEW
Charming city hotel in an interesting renewed area of
Thessaloniki. Close to the seafront and the galleries and restaurants
of the port.
Capsis Bristol with 20 rooms is set in an 1870's
building (originally the city's port-office - miraculously saved in
the 1917 fire that destroyed most of the city), generously featuring
mouldings and balustrades of the era.
The building has some atmosphere and history and the rooms are
decorated in a brush stroke which combines boutique, traditional city
hotel and distinguished club feels and influences.
Suites are generous in space, useful features, desks and sitting areas
but even the standard double rooms are quite spacious especially for a
city hotel. Tasteful decoration and furniture includes antique and
antique copies of very usable furniture it is livable and enjoyable
like a smart city studio or apartment might be.
Several rooms and suites have pleasant views to the small square with
its fountain gurgling merrily in front of the hotel.
Bathrooms are well appointed with marble-tile look, some with shower
and other sport full bath.
There is a central garden-like atrium breakfast area.
The hotel is friendly with good and professional service, containing a
restaurant, café and bar. Spacious lobby and in-between seating
areas.
The Ladadika area, home of the Capsis Bristol, has a history encompassing bawdy behaviour and
associated clubs, bars and dives. Like so many such areas around the
world, this has changed. Now the cafes tend to exhibit their art
deco features, the hotel has the distinction of being smaller and more
personal than many, while it has soared form the smouldering
hedonistic short-stay era to a quite tasteful and luxurious boutique
city hotel .
Of the areas where you may most enjoy the abundant
offerings of Thessaloniki a cultural and pretty city the Ladadika
district is near the restaurants of the harbour pier. The harbour area
has a few interesting cafes, restaurants and galleries.
Parking is limited in the area around the hotel, but the staff will help you with this
and if you have to eventually park in one of the nearby car parks a
couple of hundred yards away, then you will be helped with your luggage
or you can bring your car to the front entrance to load or unload your
suitcases (at weekends the hotel will take luggage to your car with
you as the streets are turned over to exclusively pedestrian traffic).
Help with any local attractions or advice as to how, where or what to
see is readily available, as is our
guide to
