The Arkadia region's star village is Dimitsana. The Dimitsana Hotel is charm and spirit combined, a place to relax and feel good. It is one of those friendly warm places to stay, with beautiful public areas where you can be cozy and sit in comfort while enjoying the views through pine trees to the awe-inspiring solid mountains.
The hotel has the comfortable feel of a simple ski lodge. To have completed a healthy walk to and around the village, or down towards the river, up into the craggy slopes between clusters of plants and herbs shaded by pines - to return, to relax.
Fireplaces, soft sink-into sofas and armchairs, lots of wood framing the picture windows - you can just sit and read, chat, sip a drink, a cappuccino perhaps - then glance again at that soothing view which is rejuvenating on its own. The breakfast room is warm, welcoming and that view can't be beat! Breakfast - well you can have pretty much what you feel like eating to start the day.
Rooms are small, simply furnished, good modern bathrooms, centrally heated (it is not hot enough at this altitude for air conditioning to be needed in the summer). Each room has a TV, fridge, closet, own wooden balcony, beds have amply cushioned headboard.
The hotel is 400 metres from the village, which is a delight to walk around. There are five tavernas, four cafes and small local village shops. The old churches, village streets that follow up hill or along the rock outcrops that sit above the Lucios river, allow you to enjoy the crisp mountain air.
It is well worth a couple of night's stay when exploring the Peloponnese. The drive through the area is scenic and takes in many small villages with old houses draped along the mountainsides. There is a sense of calm, quiet and history you can always feel up in the mountains...villages protected by the topography of the land they sit upon, well above the foaming waves of tourism by the sea or the myriad influences experienced in the cities and lowland towns.
Whether with a beloved companion, with several loved ones, great friends or doing a solo tour of the area there can be few greater pleasures than returning to the warmth of the lounge area and ordering an after dinner drink, choosing a seat of preference and just relaxing.
Rooms view to the front of the hotel and mountainside climbing above, or to the rear and the valley below & mountain slopes opposite. Balcony with table & chairs. Bedroom: twin beds are placed together, so they can suit those wanting separate sleeping or closer quarters. Dressing table, TV, central heating (due to the high altitude, air conditioning is not needed).
Bathrooms are marble, with shower. Hairdryer & toiletries.
FACILITIES
Lounge & bar with wooden floor, rugs, fireplace, plush sofas & large picture windows, sloping timber beam roof.
Breakfast room with large windows around it, inside yet at one with nature.

SuperbGreece.com guest experiences of Dimitsana Hotel[Click here to SHOW/HIDE]
The decor was lovely and the
view from our room stunning but I think we were rather between seasons and
the hotel seemed to be staffed entirely by young girls none of whom spoke
English (well we were in Greece!)
The breakfasts were excellent and things
livened up on the Friday when a lot of Greeks started arriving for the
weekend but a lot of stuff had been packed away for the winter. We are not
complaining though as our objective was to walk the Lousios River gorge and
we achieved that.
