A precious gem. The only "Monument" Hotel in Greece,
sits with dignity, oozes history and displays ample character, unique
middle-eastern architecture, soul, style and select luxury.
Built in 1818 by Mohamed Ali Pasha, viceroy of Egypt, as a gift to the town of
Kavala,
his birthplace.
Restored, recreated and opened as a unique monument hotel in 2004.
The privileged who will visit, easily respect that this
is a monument you stay at in sublime calm and comfort, rather
than a typical hotel. Yet the service and quality of Imaret are
exceptional.
Preservation of the select "mansion-house guest" experience is of
paramount importance to the founder and owner. This is a place you
graduate to - not just stay - and because of that, only adults are
welcomed.
You do not just check in - you are welcomed, a guest
in the true sense of the word.
You could come here to
recover from almost anything - but if you are just seeking one of
crowning joys of travel...the destination exceeding the delight of
place, country and region, exceeding the joys of the journey - you
have found
one.
Romantic - yes, and no more perfect, mystical and
magical a place could be selected for a honeymoon.
If not a honeymooner perhaps you have longed to meet
again the most special of friends from years ago (your youth perhaps)
and sink into the ideal atmosphere to unwrap the stories of that time,
which have been left untold for some years.
You are unlikely to see the pashas discussing the affairs of state or
men decorated with a fez hat grouped around the courtyard gardens -
but you could easily daydream and imagine such a scene.
You might read of Egyptology in one of the pictorial books left for
your perusal but here - in Greece - at Imaret you can experience and
live the luxurious best of north African Middle east style.
Choosing your part of the monument: An ordinary room is special, but the special rooms are
magnificent, indeed superb. Domed ceilings, wall framed bath tubs,
styles of hospitality that genuinely beg tales of Arabian Nights and
the retreat of the privileged to homes above and beyond the
reach of the souk or the bazaar.
In the spa/treatment area, apart from numerous treatments, there is a swimming pool housed inside an old hamam (use of the pool & all treatments are charged extra - advance bookings are strongly advised).
The outdoor pond is ornamental.
Restaurant with superb food and wide ranging
imaginative menu. Champagnes - there is a choice, caviar and other
palate-pleasing pleasures are readily available.
24 luxury rooms & 6 deluxe suites.
Some with showers, some with bathtubs (all ornate & different).
Some rooms have views to the sea (balcony/terrace or not), some look
onto the courtyard garden.
Some rooms have working fireplaces (the old ones, with the chimneys!).
All have air conditioning and heating.
