OUR REVIEW

La Maltese when you enter it, seems much like a luxury club with its multiple plump sofas and armchairs, antiques, oriental rugs and grand piano, mirrors and chandeliers - rarefied yet casual, smart yet friendly in stature. Its origins were as a captain's house (ship captains were the aristocracy of Santorini ages ago), a neo classical style mansion which has been crafted into this special one-of-a-kind small luxury hotel.

La Maltese feels like a privileged place to stay and admire while enjoying the famous Santorini view. It is quieter, separated from the hotels of Fira or Oia and at the beginning of Imerovigli. The spacious (especially so for the small number of guests) terrace and pool areas are classical in feel yet modern in style.

Not short of stunning sea and volcano views, the building itself is impressive, an arched terrace is on the first level which then leads down to the pool and pool bar. There are enough spaces to be apart from any of the few other lucky guests, while you are staying.

You don't need to go anywhere, dining at La Maltese restaurant will be a treat yet there are a few places to eat nearby and a short trip takes you into Firostefani for more numerous choices of eats, shops and cafes.

Rooms are of high standard and somewhat luxurious - they, as the public areas of the hotel, are all elegant.
