OUR REVIEW

Malvasia brings a quality new small hotel to Monemvasia. Most welcome both for renovating this historic castle landmark, bringing it up to date and for all guests who want to stay in attractive rooms inside the castle walls and enjoy the views. Relax, with the comforts you expect, at a world-famous destination.

Malvasia Hotel is like a small modernised castle in its own right, with rooms nestled at various levels with picturesque village or sea views from many of them. Absorb the waft of history and views to the sea. It is situated well into the castle, so it is quieter and not prone to being flooded with the monument's daily visitors, worth noting at busier times of the year.

There is a bar and cafe with indoor seating and a terrace with a view down the hill to the ancient walls and to the sea. At this point the feeling is that of being on an island as you also look back to the "mainland" stretching over to the right of you and into the distance.

The hotel uses or retains the best of the Monemvasia decor style (floors are laid in patterns which reflect, yet improve upon the traditional, large-mosaic, contrasting marble colour stripes and squares) with modern bathrooms and good beds, closet and seating furniture, exposed beams, traditional bamboo ceiling battens and stone finishes plus light colours, windows with views and in some, a warming fireplace.

The hotel is also modestly priced for Monemvasia. Its attractiveness and better standard compared to many others within the historic castle walls mean that demand is high and we advise you to book far in advance!

The hotel is 250 m from the entrance to the Castle (the "rock") - the walk is on cobblestone (as everywhere within Monemvasia). Pedestrian access only. The hotel will help with luggage if you need it.
