OUR REVIEW

Re-created out of its somewhat utilitarian origins, the Nafplia Palace has the regal position that provides splendid views out to sea, across the Bourtzi turret and islet and to the surrounding bay's coastline. The hotel conquers the "Akronafplia" Venetian fortress hillside, next to Nafplio's Palamidi Castle. With 51 rooms - all with balconies and sea views - the hotel is elevated above the town. This is one of the landmark and most memorable places
to stay in Nafplion. The hotel has been rescued one might say, from its origins as a state-run hotel and is now in the hands of professionals who are doing a good job of making this, unique "landmark" hotel, the Nafplion star. This is a gradual process, so interiors & bathrooms still have some way to go, to achieve the level of fineness that would justify its 5 stars.

The 33 newly built bungalow-villas & suites (completed in 2007) add a higher level of sophistication and luxury to the hotel. Borrowing in style from its sister Amphitryon Hotel, but blending perfectly with the more "doric" character of Nafplia Palace, the suites are high-tech, ultra-modern and very spacious, with fitness rooms, luxurious bathrooms, some with private pools - all with spectacular views...now we are talking true 5 star accommodation and the best you can have in Nafplion.

There is an elevator to take you down to street level in Nafplion whenever the walk up the winding road past the castle is not a joyful proposition. A large swimming pool with ample terrace sun-lounging area allows swimming with a magical view to relax you. Above this, is the open-design "Amimoni" Mediterranean restaurant, a magical place to dine (that view!). Menus are almost as enthralling as the view and a good wine list helps to smooth the visual and gastronomic palate.

Rooms with paneled wood ceilings, are a combination of futuristic convention centre styles as seen with a 70's eye and spacious-mountain-lodge meets the-Mediterranean-villa-that-Frank-Lloyd-Wright-never-actually-built. Perhaps this sounds odd; yet there is a sense of having "arrived" at a place you feel is a real retreat and destination. And, as a vantage point for the history of the town and the vistas in front of you, it's a valuable place to include on your grand tour of the Peloponnese or Greece. The hotel feels big - extra-large open spaces and the giant lobby lounge and entrance area encourage this. It is gradually evolving into what should become one of the more stylish destination hotels - it already has "style"... just a few finishing touches (expected soon) could elevate it it to the top tiers. A worthy hotel for a most worthwhile town.

Honeymooners delight. One bedroom, some with separate living room, spacious bathrooms (some up to 66 m²) with Aero spa bathtubs, some with chromotherapy, spacious shower cabins with steam baths, in room & outdoor touch screens for pool & rooms for lighting, hydro jets water PH & temperature, cordless telephones. The Palace Villa (2 bedrooms), 100 m², with private pool
Two bedrooms, one living room with separate dining area, kitchenette, walk in closet and two marble-lined bathrooms including a Alessi bathtub and steam bath in the master bathroom, while the second bathroom include a separate shower cabin with hydro massage jets. The private pool is 10 m long with a private marble terrace of 30 m², with stunning views over the sea. Home Cinema with Dolby surround system on Projector screen (2,5 m), 3 Plasma TVs including one TV in the steam bath, cordless telephones. Up to 4 people.

ACTIVITIES
Scuba diving at Arvanitia beach (summer). Tennis courts & mountain bikes available nearby. Boat excursions to nearby islands like Hydra, Spetses or to Monemvasia. Yacht hire.
