Why we like it:
beautiful seaside setting, picturesque, cozy indoor lounge areas,
winter-perfect
OUR REVIEW
Neo Vitilo is a tiny village, snuggly tucked into the Karavostasi-Limeni
Bay. It is round the cove from Limeni village and the Porto Vitilo
Hotel is the mainstay of the Karavostasi part of the bay.
This is the place we almost missed, nearly running out
of time and daylight when we first visited to see it for ourselves -
thank goodness we made it in time! Porto Vitilo is as charming as
seaside hotels can be in Greece. Combining a select feel with quality
and welcome. The style is country club/casual - but informal. The
hotel's reception area leads into spacious lounges, comfortable chairs
abound to relax into and many areas are great for sitting and reading
the book you've promised to finish. Sipping a hot chocolate or
venturing a glass of ouzo with meze before the evening truly starts.
It has a little flavour of the canyon and national park
inns of the USA.
It has a big, light feel even with its features of more hewn stone a
wood beam ceilings and inviting fireplace but with trees beside
it and yet you are by the sea.
Suites are inspiringly decorated and rooms are well furnished and of
pleasingly good standard, a quality result. Many have a sea view…but
other rooms here have fine & dramatic mountain views. The balconies
are stone-trimmed and a fitting treat to help you enjoy the setting.
The shingle beach, though not itself impressive is "right there" -
just walk across the 25 metres of the hotel's garden and step
into the sea! The bay you look out onto often sparkles and the dramatic
coastline getting to and from the hotel offers sights, views and
stopping points to absorb, drink, photograph and remember for years to
come.
To vary your sipping and dining choices - you are just a few minutes from a choice of cafes and tavernas at Limeni,
and a bigger selection just a scenic 10 minute drive away in Areopoli.
There is a view far above, of the privately owned 18th century
Dekoulou monastery (not in use!) and its gardens with hills cascading
to the sea, the hotel has a tranquil feel, especially for a beach-side
place.
This is a very scenic area and many drives, routes and villages are
spectacular. Some of the places to visit nearby include:
Diros caves (12 km), Vatheia the protected village including numerous
Mani towers (35 km), the charming Gerolimenas village and bay (30 km), Gytheio
a port with beautiful frontage (30
km), Areopoli centre of this part of Mani (6 km). Read more about Mani
