As you round the headland, Agia Pelagia is laid out below, a sprinkling of white cubes around a deep bay, which inviting you from the distance.
It is a cosy small village on the north coast of Crete Agia Pelagia and has one of the narrowest beaches that could still be called a beach, enjoyable cafes and restaurants and a few big resorts.
The region is full of natural beauty and due to its geographic position it played an important role throughout history. It is located just 24km from Heraklion town,
Enjoy-Crete (our trusted partner) offers various daily trips around the area including courses. This is about a daily trip around 10km. The trip including stops will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
It is the most suitable trip for novices (beginners) as the whole area is very protected from the north winds.
The trip will start either from Agia Pelagia or Ligaria, a small bay just a few minutes from Agia Pelagia.
After we demonstrate and practise if needed a few basic skills like a wet exit, re-entry etc, we will start paddling east to reach Mades bay. Lot of interesting cliffs are on this part and paddlers might play around the cliffs if they like.
After Mades, we will head north east until the far exit of the bay with a superb view to the whole area. From there, we will either do an open crossing (1.5 miles) to Agia Pelagia or we will paddle close to the shore back to the exit of the Ligaria bay until we reach the beach of Agia Pelagia.
We will stop there for at least half an hour to relax, swim and eat something.
After the break we will move on to Psaromoura bay and finally to Mononautis. This is the last bay of the area. From Mononautis we will either go back close to the shore or if the group feel confident enough we will do another open crossing of 2 miles back to Ligaria bay.
It is an excellent trip to improve your skills within a very safe environment. Highly recommended!
