Heraklion Museum - More Galleries Open August 1st 2013

Good news about the Archaelogical Museum of Heraklion this outstanding and one of the most important in Greece.

All galleries of the first floor of the Heraklion Museum will be open to the public, starting from the 1st of August.

The new permanent Sculpture Collection and the Gallery of the Minoan Frescoes will also be on display. The re-display of the Minoan collection galleries in in progress. We would like to notify the visitors that within the next few days selected items of the Minoan period (eg. Snake Goddesses, the Phaistos Disc, stone utensils, gold artefacts) will be moved to the new galleries of the first floor.

Until the time of their transport, these items will not be displayed in the museum's exhibition and, therefore, visitors will not be able to see them. In the course of the building renovation, which involves new state-of-the-art installations, the forthcoming exhibition will include most of the objects from the old collections as well as finds from the latest archaeological excavations.
