Kaliotzina Tavern in south Lasithi, offers marvelous, delicious, traditional, home-cooking food in a pleasant, family setting by the sea.

A small traditional taverna by the seaside right on the sand, at Koutsouras Village nearby Makrigialos, in East Crete.

"Kalliotzina" restaurant - tavern commands a superb location with spectacular sea views and a great variety of Cretan traditional recipes (xigalo, fresh fish, ntolmadakia, fried zucchini, oven potatoes, vegetarian dishes,  all cooked in extra virgin olive oil. 

The lovely lady-mama cooks with heart and soul and the staff are originally friendly, fairly prices, great value for money ... tastes Crete, Greece!

Every Tuesday and Friday there is live music by notable artists of our area. 

The History

This lovely tavern is a family business which was started by the grandmother "Kalliotzina" in 1954!

Initially, it was the main "kafeneio" of Koutsouras village, where locals would stop to drink a Greek coffee "enan ellhniko", or a shot of the Cretan alcohol spirit "mia raki" accompanied with a local delight "enan meze".

In 1980, "Kalliotzina" passes to the family's sons who decide to turn it into a fully organized tavern.

Without touching its traditional character, they started offering more and more dishes cooked by their wives, Maria and Sofia.

The Cretan ladies cook for "Kalliotzina" as they would cook for their family.

They carefully select the raw materials and they add the best Cretan extra virgin olive oil.

Nothing less would they offer to their children and grandchildren, nothing less would they offer to you!
